Eight years in business as a Financial Planner

Two months ago, I celebrated 8 years in business! 🎉

Back then, I was dismissed from SJP after just 5 months. I felt embarrassed and ashamed, wanting to hide away forever. But with three children relying on me, giving up wasn’t an option.

I had two choices: start my own business despite knowing nothing about running a business, facing 2 restrictive covenants and no clients, or find another job. I chose the easy option and founded ISJ Financial Planning.

Like investing, the journey has been turbulent. But I’ve stayed dedicated and consistent, proud to have built a business that helps clients achieve the life they desire, providing them with time and financial freedom.

The Early Days

Starting ISJ Financial Planning was not without its challenges. I faced the daunting task of building a business from scratch, with no clients and two restrictive covenants. It was a steep learning curve, but with every challenge, I found an opportunity to grow and learn.

  • Mindset is everything: It’s essential to maintain a positive mindset even when things seem impossible. My children were my motivation, reminding me that failure wasn’t an option.
  • Courageous decisions: Deciding to start my own business was terrifying, but what was the worst that could happen? Taking that leap of faith was one of the best decisions I ever made.

The Journey

Over the years, the journey has been anything but smooth. There have been ups and downs, successes and failures. But through it all, I’ve remained committed to my vision of helping clients achieve their financial goals and providing them with the freedom to enjoy their lives.

I’m proud of what I’ve built – a business that stands by its clients, offering personalised financial planning services that make a real difference.

What I've Learned

Reflecting on the past eight years, several key lessons stand out:

  1. Persistence Pays Off: Success doesn’t come overnight. It requires consistent effort and determination.
  2. Learning Never Stops: The financial planning industry is constantly evolving. Staying updated with the latest trends and regulations is crucial.
  3. Building Relationships: Trust is the foundation of my business. Building strong relationships with clients has been key to my success.

Celebrating Successes

Today, ISJ Financial Planning is a thriving business. I’ve had the privilege of helping numerous clients navigate their financial journeys, from investment planning to retirement planning and inheritance tax planning. Each success story reaffirms why I started this journey.

Looking Ahead

As I reflect on this milestone, I’m excited about the future. There are always new challenges to face and new opportunities to explore. My commitment to my clients remains unwavering, and I look forward to continuing to help them achieve their financial goals.

Always Remember

  • 🌟 Mindset is everything: Stay positive and resilient.
  • 🌟 It’s better to try and fail than to always wonder what if: Take risks and embrace challenges.
  • 🌟 Make courageous decisions; what’s the worst that can happen?: Be bold and take that leap of faith.
